Canada shall provide 400 thousand Canadian dollars for the Auschwitz-Birkenau Foundation’s Perpetual Fund. Prime Minister Stephen Harper gave this information during the visit of Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk to Canada.

As written on the website of the Canadian government: "The Harper Government is committed to support Holocaust education, research and remembrance with a view to ensuring this heinous act is never forgotten or repeated". The funds will be provided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada.

The aim of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Foundation is to finance the long-term maintenance programme of authentic Memorial Site. The principal value underlying these activities is to maximise the authenticity and legibility of the former camp space for future generations.

In April 2008, Prime Minister Stephen Harper visited the grounds of the former German concentration and extermination camp of Auschwitz, and last year the Memorial Site was visited by 9,000 Canadians.
